Hello! My name is Derek Nochefranca (he/him) and I am a Pacific Islander artist based out of Ohio. Art was always a natural outlet of expression since childhood to further immerse myself in 80's/90's pop culture and fandom pre internet. What was once innocence would evolve in to a natural dialogue to myself and for myself to make sense of my surroundings and relationships growing up. I would graduate from CSUS with a BA in Studio Art: Painting and Drawing, to then pursue my passion professionally ever since. From childhood to now, I am heavily influenced by animation, music, film, and overall art in all it's classical or pop culture forms.
Whether it may be sketching digitally, painting traditionally, or overall visual development, I love to continually challenge my storytelling with the intent of spreading reflection, inspiration, and joy throughout this world. My drawings are often of authenticity to a feeling, conveyed in explosive, gestural, and vivid color. My preferred medium is digital art and painting/drawing. My style can range from appealing graphic/stylistic characters you'd find on a colorful animated series, to gestural/dynamic images tucked away in the darkest shadows of our souls. My work aims to heal through joyful innocence or dark introspective focus.
Art, for me, is life. It's storytelling and self-expression. Art is authenticity that can spark inspiration and connection no matter the personal background. For me, art is a lifeline and means everything to me and I love it in all its forms. Thank you to all the creators who have shaped me, influenced me, and continually inspire me to leave my own illuminating mark in the dark.
